	日本語には漢字やひらがなのことばで、プライバシーをいみすることばがない。「プライバシー」は英語から入って来たことばだ。むかしの日本人にはあまりプライバシーというかんがえがなかったし、今でもアメリカ人がかんがえるプライバシーをたいせつだと思わない日本人が [A]。 [B]、日本人は友達や知り合いにとてもプライベートな質問をすることがある。こどもがいないカップルに「いつこどもをつくるんですか」と聞いたり、きんじょの人が出かける時に、「どこに行くんですか。」と聞いたりする。アメリカ人なら、こんな質問されたら、"That's none of your business!" だと思うだろう。 [C]、日本人にはこんな質問はしてもいいと思う人は多い。それから日本では電車の中やえきでだれかにぶつかった時、何も言わない人が多い。アメリカ人なら、たいてい "Excuse me" と言うだろう。　どうして、日本ではプライバシーはあまりたいせつじゃないのだろうか。日本人は一人一人よりもグループをたいせつにしてきたので、プライバシーについてあまりかんがえなかったのかも知れない。それに、日本はせまくて、人が多いから、プライベートなスペースをもつことはむずかしいのかもしれない。
